The Arexevan Racing owned Trudeau (Exceed And Excel x Canadian Legacy) made the best possible start to his career in Malaysia & Singapore when he was able to win his first race at the Selangor Turf Club on Sunday.
The race, the first leg of the Mitavite Sprint Challenge for 4yo, Class 4 horses over 1200 metres was worth RM60,000 and is sponsored by Mitavite Sdn. Bhd., the suppliers of Mitavite feeds and supplements.
Given a perfect ride by Noel Callow from barrier two, Trudeau tracked leader Happy Realm (Benny Woodworth) into the straight before kicking clear under the urgings of Callow to hold off the late challenge of Good Flying (I Azhar) and Happy Realm to win by 3/4 of a length in the slick time of 1:10.4 for the 1200 metres.
Trudeau at $27 for the $10 unit in Malaysia started second elect behind Good Fliyng ($26), a quality opponent who had won the Listed Perth Stakes as a 2yo last October at Ascot in Perth.
The win completed a riding treble on the day for Noel Callow and a training double for Richard Lines.
Trudeau has been penalised five points in the ratings to 63 points and will now step up to campaign in Class 3.
Trudea will now relocate to Singapore where he will continue his career under the care of Bruce Marsh.
