Given a great ride by four time Singapore Champion jockey Vlad Duric, Relentless was able to get the win at Kranji in the last race of the day on Saturday.
The race brought up a treble on the day for Vlad Duric who rode all three winners for second year trainer Tim Fitzsimmons who notched his first ever training treble. The winners being Don De La Vega, Boomba and Relentless. The day out for Fitzsimmons catapulted him to sixth on the trainers premiership with 11 winners from 117 runners in 2021.
Vlad had previously trialed Relentless but was having his first race ride on the Hallowed Crown gelding. Relentless jumped well and settled midfield. Ironchamp opened up a big lead with Duric having Relentless traveling one off the rail before putting the horse into the race on the turn. In the straight, Relentless gathered up the field in front of him and at the end of the 1600 metres had an easy length margin over runner up Special Ops.
The win was Relentless' first win over a mile at his second attempt and gives us confidence to pursue a campaign over longer distances after he turns 4yo in August.
The Management of the Singapore Turf Club has consigned the Group One Singapore Guineas to history. Long considered the premier race for three year olds in Singapore, we would have loved to aim Relentless for the Guineas but unfortunately will have only the $150,000 Group 2, 3yo Classic over 1400 metres in July as an option.
Relentless has now won three races from nine starts with earnings of S$118,000.
