The Tim Fitzsimmons trained Relentless 3yog (Hallowed Crown x Gladwell) has broken his maiden in emphatic style with a come from behind win in a S$75,000 Restricted Maiden over 1200 metres on the Kranji Polytrack.
The win came off a nice trial the previous week and was reward for expatriate French jockey Marc Lerner who needed to get down to his minimum riding weight to take the ride just a half kilogram over the allocated 53kg.
The wide barrier was no obstacle as we had put in place some learning's from the horses first race start and had always planned for a quiet ride in this race.
Marc Lerner executed the plan perfectly, giving Relentless cover with just three horses behind him as the field turned out of the back straight.
After tracking horses around the long Kranji turn, Lerner aimed up at the clear running wide on the track and straightened about five lengths off the pace with just Golden Sprint behind him. At the 250 metre mark Relentless still had just a single horse behind but from that point Lerner got the best out of the gelding. Race caller Nick Child signaled the impending win around 150 metres from the post as Relentless flew home to win running away from the field with a 1.3 length margin to second place getter, The Archer.
The race named after the former Singapore champion horse Debt Collector (aka Debt Agent (NZ)) came with a bonus courtesy of Magic Millions - a A$10,000 Credit Voucher to be spent at the 2020 "Gold Coast 2YO's In Training" sale.
Relentless was also purchased at a 2YO's in Training sale, being knocked down to Tim Fitzsimmons at the Inglis sale after being picked out as a likely prospect by Peter Twomey of Wattle Bloodstock .
Relentless is named after part owner Robert Sim from a nickname bestowed upon him by a couple of racing identities, jockey Noel Callow and trainer Shane Edwards.
As the horse is still growing and maturing we aren't in a hurry to rush him back to the races. Tim will give the horse an easy time and set him for a race six weeks away on Singapore Gold Cup day on the 21st November, 2020.
Relentless has now had two starts for a win and S$40,162 in earnings and is owned by Arexevan Racing, Robert Sim, Daniel Cahill, Tim Fitzsimmons, Ben Fitzsimmons, David Dawson, Tim Charlton, Yvonne Dawson, Adris Latif, Ng Tet Kong and Scott McAlister.
